What are News Feeds/RSS Feeds?News feeds allow you to see new content posted onto websites you have visited before, and were interested in. You can get their latest jobs, construction industry news, sports & current affairs news and information about pretty much anything that you thought worthwhile in one place, as soon as it is published, without having to revisit the websites you have set up the feed from. How do I start using feeds? In general, the first thing you need is something called a news reader. This is a piece of software that checks the feeds and lets you read any new articles that have been added all in one place. There are many different versions, some of which are accessed using a browser, and some of which are downloadable applications. Internet Explorer Version 7 (IE7) has an RSS feed reader built in, as do other applications such as Firefox. An example of a downloadable program for this purpose is www.feedreader.com. In addition, the search engines Yahoo and Google (among others), offer users the facility to personalize your homepage with them to include your own choice of RSS feeds & special features. Browser-based news readers let you catch up with your RSS feed subscriptions from any computer, whereas downloadable applications let you store them on your main computer. How do I choose the content I want?Once you have chosen a news reader or browser for the job, all you have to do is to decide what content you want it to receive. For example, if you would like the latest Maxim Recruitment vacancies as they are posted and are using IE7, simply visit the Maxim homepage and click on the button below “Latest Jobs by RSS” and sign up to the feed. Or, if using Feedreader, select file/new/feed and paste in www.maximrecruitment.co.uk and you are away! Other optionsDon’t forget you can also sign up for bespoke email job alerts on this site that are sent out daily. Alternatively you could even just call us on 0870 243 0446 and speak to an experienced consultant! Maxim Recruitment |
