The principal elements of construction include a major concrete trough structure, with retaining walls, to carry the DLR track between KGV Station and the northern approach to the tunnels. The project also includes a cut and cover section to the northern end of the bored tunnels.
In addition there are works to protect the few properties which may be at risk of settlement effects arising from tunnelling; main trunk sewer diversions under Woolwich New Road and Burrage Road and track and signalling installation. |

The new route would leave the planned London City Airport line east of King George V station in North Woolwich and descend into bored tunnel, passing under the River Thames and surfacing again west of Burrage Road, alongside the National Rail line platforms at Woolwich Arsenal station.
Tenders are now under evaluation, contract award is anticipated late 2004. |
